The first big storm of the year has made its way past the Florida Keys. Islamorada got some rain out of it and a little bit of wind. Went for a drive yesterday after the sun came out. Everything in Islamorada seamed to be running as normal. The water in the back country looked a little dingy but not to bad. With the wind settling down late yesterday afternoon I am sure that with one or two tide changes the water will be back to normal. The day after the storm is usually a good fishing day. I would expect today to be one of those days. My charter trip for today canceled as the clients did not come to Islamorada this weekend due to the storm. So maybe I will have to go do some fun fishing in the back country on my own today! Good luck to everyone that is out there fishing today and be safe!!
Here in Islamorada Florida sharks in abundance. The keys has all kinds of sharks to go catch and many different ways of catching them. Catching them on the fly rod is one of the most fun ways to catch these big beast! Here is a little video we put together with a few of my clients catching big boys on fly rods!!
The snook fishing in the back country of Islamorada has been pretty good. The top water lure bite has been good if you are in a skiff getting up on the flats. For the bigger bay boats, live bait is the ticket. Whether it is pilchards or pin fish. Pilchards have moved to the ocean side of the keys and are almost impossible to find in the Islamorada back country. Lucky for us we have pin fish traps and a huge pin to keep them in. our pin fish traps are always in the water catching us fresh pin fish.
